Digital Shift: Makueni SACCOs Adopt Automated Systems
On June 27, 2025, a total of 22 SACCOs and 13 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in Makueni County wrapped up a two-day training session focused on automation and digital record-keeping. The training, which took place in Makindu, Kibwezi West, was organized by the Department of Agriculture and delivered by AMTECH, with support from the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP).

The goal of the training was to equip Executive Committee members and bookkeepers with practical skills to manage financial and member records using a newly introduced automated system. By adopting this system, both SACCOs and FPOs are expected to improve the accuracy, efficiency, and transparency of their operations.
Bookkeepers received hands-on training on tasks such as entering data, managing transactions, and keeping member information up to date within the digital platform.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Officer for Livestock, Fisheries, and Cooperative Development, Japheth Kiminza, encouraged participants to understand the importance of automation and take ownership of the implementation process.
The system being rolled out is designed to handle a range of key operations, including registering members, tracking contributions and shares, processing loan applications, and converting historical records into a digital format.
This initiative is set to enhance transparency, streamline service delivery, and make day-to-day management easier for SACCOs and FPOs across Makueni.
